FPL: Top Five Goalkeepers For Your 2022-23 Season Fantasy Team Based On Last Season

Goalkeepers are not the most discussed players in football. However, successful teams always have a solid goalkeeper.

In the past few years, the art of goalkeeping has become a wider concept. A few years ago, it was all about keeping the ball out of the net. Gradually, sweeper-keeper came into the picture, and with teams playing high defensive lines, clubs need a keeper to also operate as a sweeper.

Now, keepers are asked to play with their feet as well. Manchester City’s Ederson is a prime example of a modern-day keeper.

Let’s have a look at the best goalkeepers to pick for next season based on the points they earned in FPL.

5. Lukasz Fabianski – 136

Lukasz Fabianski’s performances for West Ham United last season were excellent. He was one of the most important players for David Moyes’s side in a historic season for the hammers.

He recorded a 69% save percentage in the Premier League last season. The 37-year-old also saved 50% of the penalties he faced.

Next season, he will again be a key player for David Moyes, who will look to have another great season with more competition in the Premier League.

4. Jose Sa – 146

Wolves had a good first season under Bruno Lage as they finished 10th in the top flight last season. Portuguese goalkeeper Jose Sa did an excellent job in replacing Rui Patricio, who was a massive player for Wolves.

Jose Sa kept 11 clean sheets last season and recorded 3.3 saves per game with a success rate of 75%. He also completed 3.9 long balls per game but had a poor long ball accuracy of 31%. However, it was his brilliant shot-stopping that made him the fourth-best keeper in the Premier League last season.

3. Ederson – 155

One of the biggest parts of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side, Ederson was phenomenal again last season. He was joint top for keeping the most clean sheets in the Premier League last season. The Brazilian earned 155 points based on his performances in City’s title-winning season.

Ederson recorded a 70% save percentage. However, his primary skill is the quality of his passes from the deepest position on the pitch. Ederson completed 4 long balls and 2.2 chipped passes per game and achieved an 89% success rate in his passing last season.

With Manchester City set to go for their third consecutive Premier League title, Ederson will again be a crucial player for Pep Guardiola next season and a great pick for your fantasy team.

2. Hugo Lloris – 158

Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris was one of the most underrated performers from last season. The world cup winner started in all of Tottenham’s 38 games in the league last season and the Frenchman earned 158 points in the Premier League last season.

He registered a save percentage of 71% in 2021/22 and was a crucial part of the side throughout. Lloris was also effective in his distribution, completing 4.1 long balls and 2.1 chipped passes per game.

With Antonio Conte building a side that could challenge on all fronts, Lloris will be a key player next season on and off the pitch.

1. Alisson Becker – 176

Arguably the best goalkeeper in the world, Alisson Becker earned the most fantasy points in FPL last season. With Liverpool missing out on the Premier League by just one point last season, Alisson’s performances were immense for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
