In the group of death, England go to the Allianz Arena to face Germany with both sides in need of a win after dropping points in their first games of this season’s UEFA Nations League. Germany drew against Italy while England shockingly lost to Hungary.
Both nations will be looking to get the upper hand and progress in the competition and so tonight’s game is critical especially for the Three Lions.
Will England Score A Goal In The First 30 Minutes Against Germany?
England lost their opening game against Hungary and it was a game where Hungary recorded more shots on target than England, despite the latter having more big name players in their squad.
England were struggling to control the game and looked erratic defensively. Hungary, on the other hand, played an excellent game despite being underdogs.
With Germany expected to have more of the ball today, England are likely to only get chances on the break. Playing on the counter-attack suits Gareth Southgate’s side better.
However, after that performance against Hungary, it’s hard to see England getting a goal in the opening half an hour of the game.
Will England Win The Match Against Germany?
Germany are the favourites for this game, and a draw is an even stronger possibility. It’s not justified to completely blame the players for poor performances as they have just finished a long and hard season domestically with their clubs and being asked to play four games in June for their national teams is surely physically draining.
This game is likely to end in a draw, with Germany slightly favourites to win. However, if England defend well in their medium-to-low block and take their chances from set-pieces and counter-attacks, they could get the three points.
Will England Score A Goal In The First Half Against Germany?
As mentioned in the above question, England scoring one goal in the first half could also be a surprise. Germany’s style of play is vulnerable to counter-attacks, but Rudiger and the German back line have the attributes that a high pressing side need from their defenders.
It’s the wide areas where England could hurt Germany in transitions. It’s unlikely that England will have much joy playing vertically as Germany are expected to dominate that area of the pitch. However, the midfield battle is shaping up to be intriguing.
There are slight chances of England getting a goal in the first half from either a set-piece or a counter-attack.
Will Germany Score A Goal In The First 30 Minutes Against England?
Again, it all depends on the players’ fitness levels after a season with pretty much no breaks. With the domestic seasons starting soon due to the World Cup in November, players are not ready to risk their fitness as they aim to play this year’s big tournament in Qatar.
Germany have the players who can hurt the England defence if they play at their best. Kimmich from deep, and the players in and around the box like Kai Havertz have the ability to play in between the lines against a deep line of defence.
After the humiliation against Hungary, the England players will be eager to keep a clean sheet against Germany. When it comes to defending deep, Gareth Southgate is excellent at setting up his players for just that.
Considering that, overall, the chances of Germany getting a goal in the first half-hour are quite low.
