Bundesliga
Augsburg 3-3 RB Leipzig
A red card can turn a game on its head. Never has this saying been truer than in this game. Augsburg are making it a habit of featuring on this list every other week. But this time, they would wish they hadn’t. Despite getting a point, this would feel like a loss for the hosts.
The home side were 3-0 up in the 64th minute. How on earth did they manage to draw the game from there? A red card to Iago just a minute after their 3rd goal meant they had to play the next half an hour with 10 men. Surely they could still hold on? Surely? Well, football is a funny game.
Szoboszlai ran the show thereon from midfield as Silva reduced the deficit for Leipzig, with substitute Nkunku also scoring a delightful freekick 2 minutes before the end of normal time. A 90th minute equalizer from Nuovo meant Leipzig took full advantage of the extra man, scoring 3 goals in 18 minutes to cap off a stunning comeback at the Augsburg Arena.
Serie A
Fiorentina 4-3 Inter Milan
Fiorentina and Inter played out an all time classic at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence, with the Serie A producing another humdinger. The game started with a bang as Inter came out all guns blazing scoring 2 goals in 15 minutes from usual suspects Barella and Martinez.
Fiorentina had scored just 8 goals all season before this game, but a penalty to the home side in the 33rd minute opened the floodgates for a comeback. I Viola stormed back into the game in the second half, as Ikone restored parity with a sumptuous left foot curler. But the game was far from done yet as Martinez soon grabbed his 2nd with a penalty to give Inter the lead again.
When it looked like Inter would grab all 3 points, forgotten man Luka Jovic managed to make it 3-3 for Fiorentina in the 90th minute. There was however one final twist left. Fellow forgotten man Mkhitaryan took advantage of a lovely ball played across the box and a scuffed Fiorentina clearance to score a dramatic winner in the 95th minute. The Armenian’s 1st goal for the Nerazzuri gave them their 3rd straight win in some style.
Ligue 1
LOSC Lille 4-3 Monaco
It was a direct tussle between 6th and 7th place, as Lille and Monaco played out a 7-goal belter. This game was almost like a boxing match, with both sides dishing out constant blows to each other with the lead going back and forth.
The home side had conceded the most goals in the top half of the French first division. Despite opening the scoring, that trend continued as the Lille defense had a couple of howlers, first with goalkeeper Chevalier, and then centre-back Djalo. Remy Cabella however, scored a brace to bail them out each time.
Monaco had proven to be Lille’s bogey team over the years, with Les Dogues having lost 4 of their 5 recent games to them at Stade Pierre Mauroy. With the game poised at 3-3, it looked like Monaco would once again come up trumps in this fixture, but stand-in captain Bamba had other ideas. He blasted the winner through the roof of the net to send the roof of the stadium through the raptures as well. The nail biting win ensured Lille leapfrogged Monaco in the table, now having won 3 in a row.
