Points Per Value vs Ownership Percent
The above chart makes for interesting reading as it showcases the players providing the best points per value (PPV) in terms of the lower ownership bracket (marked by red data points) as opposed to the points per value of players with the highest ownership (marked by white data points) in the game currently.
Goalkeepers
In terms of goalkeepers, José Sá from Wolves is one of them that features on this list. Although the Midlands club have kept just one cleansheet for the season against Fulham where Sá saved Mitrović’s penalty to earn 15 of his 22 points accumulated so far, he does average 1 FPL save point every match with 3 saves at least in each of his first four outings. He’s recorded a PPV of 4.8 at 5% ownership until gameweek 4.
Down the south coast, Robert Sánchez of Brighton has kept 3 clean sheets in 4 games accounting to most of his points this campaign. While his save rate is much lower than that of Sá, having a solid defense in front of him does catapult his PPV to 5.65 . With 6.5% ownership, he presents great value in your FPL teams.
Dean Henderson of Nottingham Forest meanwhile records the best PPV of the keepers in the game at 6.52. Although his ownership is higher than the other options mentioned above at 10.7%, he’s accumulated the highest saves (22) in the game with 2 penalties saved already this campaign. This makes him a standout option currently based on the stats from the first four gameweeks of the season.
Defenders
Moving on to the defenders in the game, Newcastle United’s Fabian Schär with a PPV of 4.46 at 7.8% ownership provides considerable value. Although the majority of his points were scored in Newcastle’s 2-0 opening weekend win over Forest, the Magpies do have 2 cleansheets so far, which puts Schär as a viable option at his price point.
Brighton’s sturdy defense further features in this list with the likes of Lewis Dunk and Joël Veltman. The latter having a PPV of 5.21 at an ownership of just 3.6% is the least owned defender of the group which makes him a strong differential option.
Arsenal’s perfect start to the season has seen William Saliba keep 2 cleansheets so far, but with a goal and an assist to his name, his PPV is the highest in the group at 5.95 with a strong ownership of 17.3%. With further favourable fixtures over the coming weeks, he presents great value for FPL managers.
Midfielders
In the midfielders section, Martin Ødegaard has shown tremendous form scoring 3 goals so far already. With a PPV of 4.69 and an ownership of 20.4%, it’s clear that FPL managers have been transferring him into their teams in recent weeks as he provides great value and a chance to capitalize on the Gunners’ great start to the campaign.
Meanwhile, in the absence of striker Patrick Bamford, Spaniard Rodrigo Moreno has taken the mantle of being the primary goalscorer for Leeds providing an incredible PPV at 5.69. With an ownership of 32.1%, he is the highest owned player in this list.
Another Brighton player who has found his way into several FPL teams has been Pascal Groß. With a PPV of 6.03, he presents the best points per value of the players in the list, and is soon becoming a must-have in your FPL teams as he is owned by 17% of FPL managers already.
PPV’s Of Players With Highest Ownership
When comparing the above data to the data points of players with higher ownership marked in white, Mohamed Salah being the most expensive player in the game has a PPV of just 1.92. Although the Egyptian has 2 goals and an assist in his first 4 games, his PPV takes a hit due to his hefty price.
Gabriel Jesus meanwhile is the highest-owned player in the league providing a PPV of 3.17. He’s been vital to Arsenal’s early season form with an impressive tally of 2 goals and 3 assists to his name.
Points Per Game vs Ownership Percentage
The above chart represents the data points of points per game (PPG) of players with the least ownership (marked by red data points) as opposed to the points per game of the players in the highest ownership bracket (marked by white data points).
Goalkeepers
On first glance, it is clear that Robert Sánchez is the standout goalkeeper in the game when it comes to points per game at 6.5 PPG with 3 cleansheets and 26 FPL points accumulated in the first four gameweeks already.
Defenders
But as we move to the defenders, there are a couple of players with lesser ownership who have more than 6 points per game. William Saliba features again with 7 PPG with 28 points already.
Spurs have also had an unbeaten start to the season with defender Davinson Sánchez having an ownership of less than 1%. Although he has only featured in the previous 2 games for Spurs, he’s gotten 2 cleansheets in both of them scoring a PPG of 6.5.
Midfielders
There are several midfielders who feature here with Manchester City’s İlkay Gündoğan showing some promising early season form as he has 2 goals and an assist to his name in 3 starts, with his latest appearance from off the bench where he recorded his solitary assist of the campaign. Scoring 6.2 PPG at 5.6% ownership, he provides an excellent route into City’s midfield for FPL managers.
Wilfried Zaha has also had a great start to the season scoring 3 goals in 3 starts for Crystal Palace thus far. With a PPG of 7 and an ownership of just 7.4%, he is an excellent option in midfield.
Brighton’s Pascal Groß tops the charts again with the highest PPG of 8.8 of all players in the chart under 20% ownership. In charge of set pieces, and the penalty taker in the absence of Mac Allister, he has registered 3 goals and an assist in his first 4 games helping the Seagulls have a stellar start to the season.
Forwards
There is quite a battle amongst forwards for FPL managers to consider this season. Ivan Toney of Brentford has registered a PPG of 6.8 at 18.6% ownership as he’s bagged 2 goals and 2 assists so far for the Bees.
Meanwhile fellow West London rivals Fulham have also had a great return back to the top flight with 2 draws and a win in their 4 games with the latest game seeing them lose to table toppers Arsenal in a closely fought contest where the Cottagers took the lead through their in-form forward Aleksandar Mitrović. The Serbain scored 4 goals in his first 4 games, he has amassed a PPG of 6.2 at an ownership of 19.8%. At such great value, he could be forcing his way into your FPL teams soon.
PPG’s Of Players With Highest Ownership
When the above data points are compared to the players with higher ownership, Erling Haaland with 10.2 PPG leads the race. the Norwegian leads the golden boot race with 6 goals already, having scored a hattrick against Palace in City’s comeback win in gameweek 4.
But his fellow City teammate João Cancelo has the least points per game in the chart at a PPG of 4.8, with no points hauls in the last 2 gameweeks.
Final Thoughts
Based on the overall analysis, it is clear that there have been numerous surprises in the FPL season, with several lesser-known names and unexpected players like Rodrigo and Groß pulling up the shots.
While newcomers in Haaland seem like they have taken to the PL like a duck to water, some famous names and PL veterans like Salah have underperformed heavily leaving FPL managers on their toes in what has been a fascinating start to the campaign.
