5. Cameron Archer, Aston Villa (£4.5m)
£4.5m is the minimum price possible for a forward, and Archer is certainly worth selecting as a bench player in an attempt to create more funds for your premium forwards.
Additionally, Archer has had a solid pre-season and made a fair few appearances. It is unlikely that he’ll be the starting striker, however with 3.33 shots/90 he could score a few over the course of the season. He would also surely benefit from the 5-sub rule and get some valuable game time.
4. Deniz Undav, Brighton (£5.5m)
Brighton’s new signing and starting no9, Undav, by the looks of it, comes with a solid pedigree. 25 goals last season in the Belgian league is admirable, and you expect Graham Potter to get the best out of him.
Brighton has been a team that perennially underperforms on their xG, and I believe Undav could be the guy to end that problem. He averaged 4.1 shots/90 and 1.72 shots on target/90, and although these numbers would likely come down in the Premier League, he could be a good pick at his price.
3. Dominic Solanke, Bournemouth (£6.0m)
Will Solanke finally deliver on his potential? The striker was seen as England’s next big thing during his time at Chelsea, but it didn’t quite work out. Now back in the Premier League with Bournemouth after putting the Championship to the sword, scoring 29G and getting 7A last season, Solanke will be looking to match those numbers in the Premier League in 2022/23.
Solanke also took 3.48 shots/90 and is a valuable pick as a budget forward; he also has an xG of 2.9, however, in all likelihood, he will surely cross that number and hit the back of the net more consistently for Bournemouth this coming season.
Nonetheless, having cemented himself as the team’s main goalscorer, he has repaid his manager’s faith in him. He is also the team’s designated penalty taker making the 24-year-old one of the best picks at his price point.
2. Brennan Johnson, Nottingham Forest (£6.0m)
Brennan Johnson tore up the championship last year, getting 18G and 10A, which is a great return. He was the team’s talisman and was key in their promotion push. He is the team’s designated penalty taker and takes a few free kicks, so he could get a few more assists.
With 1.99 shots/90 and 0.36 goals/shot, Johnson could light up the Premier League and could get you valuable points.
The addition of Lingard also makes this FPL forward a more fascinating option. Steve Cooper’s men have decent opening fixtures and could have run sort of like Timo Pukki at the start of last season.
1. Aleksandar Mitrovic, Fulham (£6.5m)
Mitrovic’s Championship season was one for the ages. 43G and 7A in 44 games, he set a new record for goals in a season in the Championship, and this will be his season to deliver in the Premier League.
I know he flopped at the last time of asking, but with more experience and maturity now, he will be a game changer. He took 4.6 shots and 2.4 shots on target/90, and was involved in all of Fulham’s build-up play.
Even though I believe Fulham will be one of the teams fighting relegation, Mitrovic will be key if they manage to stay up.
