Bundesliga

Koln 3-2 Augsburg

The absence of Koln’s top scorers Floarian Kainz and Dejan Ljubicic did not deter the Billy Goats, as Steffen Tigges stepped up to score a brace that ensured all 3 points for the home side, who now sit in 7th in the league.

However, it was Augsburg who took the lead in the 14th minute through Niederlechner against the run of play. After creating a bunch of chances, Koln equalized immediately after the break. Their dominance was rewarded with another goal soon after as they deservedly took the lead. But Augsburg, who have already slayed giants Bayern this season, had no plans of letting up, as the visitors equalized within minutes.

This resulted in a frantic finish to the game, with the home fans spurring their team on. After all the dominance, Tigges scored his second of the game in the 81st minute to seal a great win for Koln in the Bundesliga’s most exciting game of the weekend.

Serie A

Napoli 3-2 Bologna

Napoli will just not be beaten this season. Spalletti’s men plucked another rabbit out of the hat and won yet another game to stay on top of Serie A after 10 games. Victory did not seem very likely for Gli Azzurri as Bologna kept fighting their way back into the game, but the home side just wouldn’t give up.

Despite the opening pressure from Napoli, it was Bologna who opened the scoring at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. But the lead lasted just 4 minutes as the hosts clawed their way back into the game. The game saw a frenzy of goals on either side of the half time break, as the lead exchanged hands once more with Lozano scoring the 2nd for Napoli. But within just 2 minutes, things were all square once again as Barrow equalized through a Meret howler.

Breakout star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia continued to impress, but it was Osimhen who stole the headlines. The Nigerian scored just his 3rd goal of the season to give Napoli 3 points in this 5 goal thriller.

Ligue 1

Rennes 3-2 Lyon

Despite starting afresh under new manager Laurent Blanc, Lyon succumbed to another defeat as their horrible away form continued. Les Gones are now remarkably winless in 6 games, before which they were unbeaten in the league. Rennes meanwhile continued their fine run, not having lost a Ligue 1 game since August.

It was the battle of the braces between Alexandre Lacazette and Martin Terrier at Roazhon Park. The former Arsenal striker broke the deadlock at 23 minutes, giving Lyon the lead. However, Terrier soon made it 1-1 for the hosts, heading home a great cross against his old club. Lyon’s aerial misery continued as another former player Gouiri also scored a header early in the second half to put Rennes in front.

Lacazette later poached on a loose parry from veteran Mandanda to grab his 6th of the season. But Lyon’s hopes of a turnaround in the final stages were thwarted as Terrier won the battle of the braces and scored just 5 minutes later, to destroy any hopes of a comeback for the visitors. The home fans went wild as his 77th minute goal turned out to be the winner in what was a fantastic game for the neutrals.
