The first leg between Man City and Real Madrid was one of the most entertaining Champions League games this season as City came out on top at the Etihad. However, with the second leg taking place at the historic Bernabeu, Real Madrid are more than good enough to execute another unlikely comeback.
What do Real Madrid need to do to win the tie?
As entertaining as the first leg was, the game exposed defensive frailties and repetitive mistakes at both ends. The goals Real Madrid conceded were easily avoidable like Militao’s error for the Jesus goal, Foden scoring a free header and Mahrez being allowed to cut in on his left foot repeatedly.
Tonight, Real Madrid need to make sure they stay focused out of possession. Manchester City will dominate the ball, and the home side will have to take their chances on counter-attacks. There is no doubt that Real are an excellent counter-attacking side with the pace of their front three but an early goal will give Real a huge boost, so they should be looking to get on the scoresheet in the opening minutes of the game.
However, if they concede soft goals as they did in the first leg, City might just scrape through against the Madrid giants at the Bernabeu.
Will Manchester City Win The Match against Real Madrid?
If City lose tonight’s match by a margin of one goal, the game will go to extra time. In order to knock City out, the home side will have to win the game by at least two goals.
Manchester City had plenty of chances in the first leg to pull away, but their end product was disappointing. The absence of Walker in defence caused a lot of trouble for Pep’s side as they struggled to deal with the pace of Vinicius and Rodrygo.
Both sides displayed defensive fragility in the first leg, which is likely to continue in the second leg. Alaba’s injury concern will be an issue for Ancelotti, and Casemiro will be another key player for the home side.
On balance of things, this match could end in a draw. There’s a a high possibility that the game will end 2-2, but the scoreline could easily go above that.
However, City are ahead on aggregate and are in a better position to win this game and progress to the final.
Can Karim Benzema Break Cristiano Ronaldo’s Record Of 17 UCL Goals?
Karim Benzema has mesmerized with his performances this season. His contribution to Real Madrid’s comebacks this season have been immensely significant and his goals against PSG and Chelsea were crucial to get his side through to the next stage.
This season in the Champions League, the Frenchman has scored a brilliant 14 goals in 10 games. However, breaking Cristiano’s record of 17 goals looks unlikely. For that, Benzema would need to score another four goals.
Real Madrid could get eliminated tonight, which means he has one game to score four goals; it’s not impossible, but for him to score four goals in one game against this City team will be nothing short of a miracle.
However, given the circumstances, even though it’s Benzema we’re talking about, breaking Ronaldo’s record would be a rather difficult for the Frenchman.
Will There Be Three Or More Goals in Real Madrid vs Manchester City?
Considering the scoreline in the first leg between City and Real, having three goals or more in the second leg is rather likely. Both teams are in great goal scoring form in the Champions League and are defensively circumspect at the same time.
Benzema is in such great form that he’s likely to score at least one goal if anything in this game. Also, with Real Madrid playing this leg at home, they are likely to score at least a couple of goals. Manchester City could also score at least one or two after what we witnessed in the first leg, but their primary priority is to shut out Real.
With world-class and in-form attacking players on show, and with both sides missing key players in defensive areas, the probability of witnessing three or more goals tonight is much higher than it would be had both teams had fully fit squads.
So it’s highly plausible that tonight’s game could see three or more goals scored.
Will Karim Benzema Score One or More Goals in REM vs MCI Match?
This seems like the easiest question out of the four. The 34-year-old has been outstanding this season across all competitions. When his side has needed him the most, Karim Benzema has stepped up on every occasion and even in the first leg, his finishing was world-class. The first goal was an excellent volleyed finish and the second was a calm and composed panenka from the spot under pressure.
With Real Madrid needing two goals again tonight, the Frenchman will need to keep his form going. So yes, Benzema scoring one or more goals tonight is highly likely.
Conclusion
Real Madrid have already completed two comebacks in the earlier rounds against Chelsea and PSG.
But Manchester City are aiming to get to two consecutive Champions League finals in successive seasons with their domestic rivals Liverpool already through.
The Bernabeu is known for creating a hostile atmosphere especially during Champions League nights. So, it will be interesting to see if City can handle the Bernabeu atmosphere.
With all to play for, the tie promises to be an interesting affair with both teams in with a chance of making it through to the final.
