A Big Move On The Cards For Moussa Diaby?

Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby is one of the most exciting players in Germany right now. Another great French talent, he provided 25 goal contributions last season. One of the best dribblers in the Bundesliga, his goal output was what everyone had their reservations over, but he’s quelled all those doubts.

Since his departure from PSG for around £13million, he has received the game time he needed to grow into an exciting upcoming winger. He has explosive pace, brilliant dribbling ability, and never has a problem beating his opponent. He is naturally left-footed and loves starting out wide and driving towards the box.

The 22-year-old winger registered double figures for Leverkusen for goals and assists last season scoring 13 and providing 12 assists in 32 games. He also averaged 1.9 key passes and 1.8 successful dribbles per game in the Bundesliga.

Here’s where he could move to next.

The Biggest Rumour: Newcastle United

Newcastle United have emerged as the favourites for Diaby’s signature, with reports suggesting that the Magpies would have to pay around £50m for the Frenchman. Almiron has been very inconsistent and lacks end product, so Diaby would be an incredible upgrade on him. He has that X-factor that could push Newcastle into contention for the Conference League spot.

Having Saint-Maximin on one wing and Diaby on the other would make Newcastle one of the most exciting teams to watch, at least on paper. Signing a 22-year-old, full France international who has just burst onto the scene would be a coup for a team like Newcastle. The likes of Guimares and Diaby could be the spine of a great Magpies team that Eddie Howe is currently building.

Wildcard option: PSG

Diaby came through the PSG academy but never really got a real shot at establishing himself in the first team. It’s not surprising that he desires to return and prove himself. In an interview with L’Équipe, he said, “When I left, it was to have more playing time. I tell myself that we have to leave to come back stronger. Why not come back to PSG one day with a different status? One of my goals is to go to a club like that with that status one day,”

PSG certainly have the finances to make it happen, and with Di Maria’s exit, a spot is available in the squad. Diaby would add a different dimension to the attack, his pace and dribbling ability could be very useful for the new PSG manager. He left the Parisians 3 years ago and has already played with most of the squad, meaning he’ll fit in seamlessly.
