Toney vs Mitrovic Comparison
Best performance of the season
Toney’s most impressive performance of the season has to be his immaculate hattrick vs Leeds. This was no ordinary hattrick either displaying the entire range of skills he has in his arsenal. First a penalty, then a free kick, and finally a deft chip; Perfection!
Mitrovic on the other hand reminded everyone who he really was on the opening day of the season, tormenting the Liverpool backline. He caught Van Dijk napping, drew a penalty, and calmly converted it. He then followed it up by exposing Trent, beating him in the air to secure his brace.
Head to Head
The Serb currently leads the Golden boot race between the two, scoring a goal more (6 to 5). The Englishman is much better when it comes to creating for his teammates having bagged 2 assists while Mitrovic is more of a traditional no9; big, strong, and clearly more dominant in the air with an ariel win% of 48.3 to Toney’s 30.9.
Both have shown great finishing ability with Mitrovic scoring 6 from an xG of 4.8 while Toney has 5 from an xG of 2.6. It’ll be interesting to see if they can keep up this clinical finishing till the end of the season.
It is a testament to how closely matched these two frontmen are that they are neck and neck, with identical numbers when it comes to Goal and Shot creating actions!
FPL numbers
Here Toney’s assists and overall higher involvement in play has seen him score higher getting 45 points to Mitrovic’s 39 points. The soon to be England international has also accumulated more bonus points (8 to 7) as well. Toney even leads when it comes to points per game(PPG) averaging 1 point more at 7.5PPG compared to Mitrovic’s 6.5PPG.
However, Mitrovic leads in the ICT index (i.e. Influence, Creativity & Threat) with 67% to Toney’s 51.8%.
The stats maybe edge towards Toney, but their ownership is a different story. Mitrovic is clearly the favoured pick with a 27.5% ownership to Toney’s 19.4% ownership. This may come down to 2 factors- Price and Fixtures.
Mitrovic is £0.3m cheaper at £6.9m. Those £0.3m are vital at this stage of the season as it could allow you to squeeze in another premium player elsewhere in your squad.
Here is where there is a stark difference between the two.
Fulham clearly have the easier run of fixtures facing two of the newly promoted sides in the next four while Brentford face Arsenal and Bournemouth as well as a tough trip up to Newcastle and also Chelsea at home.
Verdict
While it’s certainly a dilemma, as the two are almost neck and neck when it comes to the numbers, however, the fixtures cannot be ignored and have to be taken into account. So our pick would be the Serbian brute, the man who has proved his doubters wrong – Aleksandar Mitrovic.
