Late winners, injuries to template players, red cards, and a certain Norwegian tearing the league apart – yup FPL is well and truly back. After all the blanks and postponements, we finally got a full week of FPL action, and boy was it a treat for sore eyes with all its highs and lows.

With international breaks out of the way until the World Cup, we look at the top 5 FPL players to watch for gameweek 10 of the 2022/23 season in what will be a busy period.

5. Gianluca Scamacca (£6.7m)

The Italian took his time to make his mark in the PL, but now he’s finally arrived. He scored his first goal for West Ham at the London Stadium with a wonderful strike against Wolves.

The Hammers have not lost a single game in which Scamacca has started, majority of which have come in the UECL, where he has 3 goals already. Priced at only £6.7, he is the perfect short term replacement for the injured Mitrovic with FPL managers looking for forward alternatives.

He is also an ultra differential option, owned by just 0.5% of managers playing the game. With the lack of decent budget options in the forward line, he could be a cheeky punt for managers looking to climb up in their MLs.

4.  Kieran Trippier (£5.5m)

Those who owned Trippier already have been reaping the benefits as the Newcastle defender has been hauling consistently. Managers that got him in gameweek 9 got very lucky as well as he was subbed off in the 82nd minute just before Newcastle’s cleansheet was wiped out.

Trippier has failed to get a points haul in just 2 of the 8 games he’s played this season, despite keeping only 4 cleansheets out of those, which is a testament to his ability in providing attacking returns too along with bonus points.

The RB provided 4 successful crosses in the game, resulting in an xA of 1.35. With relatively good fixtures ahead, the points hauls will keep coming.

3.  Leandro Trossard (£6.7m)

Brighton this season have been the gift that keeps on giving. Despite the fabulous start they’ve had to the campaign, things have not been easy for the Seagulls with the loss of their manager and other key players.

However, their players astonishingly continue performing every week. The latest in the conveyor belt of Brighton players you must have in your FPL teams is the ‘Anfield hat-trick hero’ Trossard. He got a staggering 20 points in new manager De Zerbi’s first game in charge, becoming only the 3rd ever player to score a hat trick at the famous ground.

Overall, he amassed an xG of 1.79 and recorded 4 big chances in the game. Purely in FPL terms, he has 32 points in his last 2 games. With an ownership of around 7.5%, scoring 5 goals, and bagging 2 assists already in 7 games, he is the Brighton player managers must have in your teams.

2.  Jarrod Bowen (£8.1m)

West Ham have another player on this list. The Englishman who accumulated 12 goals and 17 assists last season had 0 in both columns this term before this game. But he broke his duck after a brilliant showing against Wolves, getting his first points haul of the season.

He created the most amount of big chances (3) in the game. His excellent link up play with Scamacca, who has also finally opened his account in the league, serves as a welcome boost for FPL managers looking at West Ham assets.

He might have just found form at the perfect time with Fulham and Southampton up next. Owned by less than 4%, he is a great differential option to the likes of Maddison, Zaha, and Diaz in that price range.

1. James Maddison (£8.1m)

Leicester finally got a huge monkey off their back with their first win of the season. They beat fellow strugglers and local rivals Forest 4-0 on Monday night, and Maddison was the star of the show yet again.

With 2 goals and an assist, he’s now taken his tally for the season to 4 goals and 1 assist in 7 games. One of the goals was a stunning free kick, his 8th such goal for the Foxes, resulting in him contributing to 53% of all goals Leicester have scored from the dead ball in the PL. With the potent set piece threat he offers, he is tremendous FPL value.

Since the end of last season, no English midfielder has gotten more goals and assists (27) than Maddison, yet England manager Southgate astonishingly keeps ignoring him. He has 4 double digits points hauls against newly promoted opposition.

Leicester play Bournemouth next, which puts him in prime contention for the FPL armband. Get him in your team ASAP; don’t pull a Southgate.
